Impact of Superfoods

Multiple tumors on both sides of my liver, six chemo sessions and 17 weeks after diagnosis, my stage 4 colon cancer was undetectable. For those not familiar, I am Greg Metry, entering my tenth year as a late stage colon cancer survivor. Once reluctant to openly discuss my disease, I now, enthusiastically share my experience and insight, with hopes that my success will assist others with managing this life threatening disease. For me, Super Foods continue to play an integral role with managing my advanced cancer. Diagnosed in July of 2012 with Stage 4 colon cancer, metastasized in the liver and spread beyond, I quickly modified my lifestyle to include, which I had previously heard little, … superfoods. I will detail specific favorites in subsequent posts, though for now, I will simply bring to light the importance that superfoods played early in my diagnosis and continues today. Immediately following diagnosis and initial colon resection, my wife, LaLisa, championed research on benefits and treatment adjuncts to traditional, western medicine. Multiple strategies revealed, we quickly developed and executed tactics to maximize those strategies. One strategy I would like to share is the addition of Superfoods to what became my new lifestyle. Daily, I included a variety of Superfoods, including kale, chard, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, berries, and nuts. Multiple tumors on both sides of the liver, six chemo sessions and 17 weeks after diagnosis, my cancer was undetectable. I had experienced, ‘Radical Remission,’ to date, not seen by my oncologist team. At the time, having little understanding of ‘stage 4’ colon cancer, I believed I was cured. However, several months, the disease returned, with the harsh realization that remission, meant dormant. ‘Enlightenment’: the realization that stage 4 cancer is a chronic disease, fostered the confidence that a lifestyle change, including a variety of superfoods, would play heavy with its successful management.

Please know my posts are catalysts to spark conversation, should a cancer survivor or family member wish to explore my success with managing late stage colon cancer. Few strategies have impacted my success more than adopting a nutritional diet, including a variety of Superfoods. As always, feel free to contact me with questions. I wish you well.
